With Tamaki Sensei (9th Dan – Okinawa)
Okinawa comes to the Netherlands — two seminars, November 2026

Hanshi 9th dan
Takeshi Tamaki was born on 12 September 1940 in the Philippines and began his karate training in 1955, at the age of 15, under Shōshin Nagamine, founder of Matsubayashi-ryū, at the Nagamine Dojo. In 1958 he moved to mainland Japan to continue training under Shukumine Gensei, returning to Okinawa in 1961 to resume at the Nagamine Dojo and begin travelling internationally for seminars.
In 1988 Nagamine Sensei graded him to 7th dan. In 1997 he was appointed Chief Director of the Matsubayashi-ryū organisation, then in 2000 became a founding member of Shōgen-ryū alongside Kensei Taba Sensei, who promoted him to Hanshi, 9th dan in 2001. Since 2014 he has served as President of the International Shōgen-ryū Karate-Do Kyokai. In August 2015 he became Technical Director of Shorin Ryu Karatedo International.
He feels a personal obligation to teach the true essence of Okinawan karate to the next generation, without holding anything back.
The seminar has two parts. Adults (18+) can join one or both parts. Under-18 participants join Part 1 (Karate) only.
Note: There is a 30-minute break between Part 1 (Karate) and Part 2 (Kobudo).
Places are limited and allocated in order of registration and payment.
Bo practice included — The seminar includes Bo (staff) training. A limited number of Bo will be available to borrow on the day. If you'd like to train with your own, any straight wooden or bamboo stick of around 180 cm works perfectly — a garden stick from the hardware store is fine. You can also buy a suitable Bo at a martial art store if you prefer.
